Marvel Mystery #34 (August 1942) Reading Copy (Timely) Picture(s) and Description:
The Human Torch and Toro defeat the Nazis with comic books: Sub-Mariner fights Nazis and sharks with bellies full of dynamite. The Vision fights "The Beast of Cactus Canyon" and The Patriot exposes "The Jap[anese] Invaders." (To add insult to insult, Terry Vance, Schoolboy Sleuth and Dr. Watson "Make Monkeys out of the [Japanese]"). Jimmy Jupiter continues this issue's Orientalist themes with his tunnel to China, while The Angel faces "The Case of Professor Torture." The cover has split and is separated from the interior but is included. The interior is a bit darkened but is supple and not brittle although there is some spine-rolling and the staples have rusted. A fair/fair- copy of a great comic and one that's sure to become a treasured part of your collection.
