Pulp Magazine: Weird Tales, July 1933 Picture(s) and Description:

Pulp

Weird Tales, July 1933. One of the best issues of the entire WT run because it includes the first appearances of two classic Lovecraft stories: “The Dreams in the Witch-House” and “The Horror in the Museum,” the latter being one of his famous uncredited “revisions” of a story by Hazel Heald. (I think only the 1924 “anniversary” issue of WT has more Lovecraft per ounce than this one.) You also get “The Man on the Ground” by Robert E. Howard, and “Ubbo-Sathla” by Clark Ashton Smith, plus part 4 of “Golden Blood” by Jack Williamson. And that smoking (literally) Brundage cover. A true grand-slam issue. Condition: Front cover has edge wear, stress marks and scuffs, a few short corner creases, and a small chip out of the bottom edge--not very noticeable because the paper that shows through is almost the same color as the man’s arm. Bottom 1/2 inch of cover has separated from the spine. Back cover has light surface soiling, edge wear, and a short (1/2-inch) tear at the bottom. Spine has some wear and has faded to orange. Pages are light tan and supple. Still very presentable. Pulp fun fact: Margaret Brundage and Walt Disney were high school classmates. They both went to Chicago’s McKinley High, where Brundage edited the school newspaper and Disney drew cartoons for it. In the late 1940s she visited her old school friend out in Los Angeles, hoping to work on Cinderella, but Disney got a look at her portfolio and politely declined. (Can you imagine a Brundage version of Cinderella? Fredric Wertham would have had a stroke.) Please e-mail me with any questions about the item before the last day of the auction. I’ll do my best to answer them. No questions about what my reserve is or what else I might sell, please. PAYMENT: Per Ebay’s Accepted Payments Policy, please pay by PayPal. Payment in U.S. dollars only. I’ll ship within three business days after receiving payment by PayPal. Washington State residents please add 8.8% sales tax. SHIPPING: I bag all pulps with a backer board. For shipping, I’ll sandwich the bagged pulp between oversized pieces of cardboard and ship in an envelope or a box, depending on the number of pulps and the total value. Shipping is by US Postal Service (Media Mail, Priority, or one of the Global services) at the actual rates. No additional “handling fees.” I include shipping insurance at no extra cost to you. (NOTE: insurance may not be available for international shipments.) Multiple wins can be combined to save shipping costs. REFUNDS: I’ve been collecting for a long time and many of you know me, so I doubt you’ll be disappointed. I check every page of every item before listing. You won’t be surprised by missing pages, clipped coupons, etc. However, if the item has significant defects not noted in the description, you may return it for a refund of your original cost. (Sorry, no partial refunds.) To return an item, you must first notify me by e-mail within 7 days of receiving it.
