14" x 17" - pencil on bristol by Chris Sanders 2007 Chris Sanders joined Walt Disney Feature Animation in 1987 where his first project was The Rescuers Down Under as a visual development artist. Chris later moved into the story department where he storyboarded several sequences of Beauty & the Beast, including the Beast’s death and magnificent resurrection. Later, Sanders developed new concepts for Disney’s Fantasia 2000, but was quickly drawn into The Lion King as the film’s production designer. On Disney's 1998 film, Mulan, Sanders lent his talents as co-head of story and screenwriter. His work on that film earned him two Annie Awards in the storyboarding and screenwriting categories. Sanders made his directorial debut with Lilo & Stitch, based on his own concept, and also provided the voice for Stitch. He is currently directing How To Train Your Dragon at Dreamworks with his Lilo co-director Dean DeBlois. Chris has a real way with drawing women. He's certainly giving Lydia the Tattooed Lady a run for her money with this piece of art. Chris' girl is beautifully pencilled with a reddish line while the tattoos are drawn with blue lead just as she appeared in his much sought after self-published Chris Sanders Sketchbook 2. Later, in collaboration with a digital colorist, this image was used in other ways. IN ADDITION, on the reverse side of this drawing is Chris' rough drawing of the tattoo girl facing the opposite direction. He likely put this rough on a light table, and did his final drawing on the other side. While the bristol is 14" x 17", the image is contained within 7" x 12". One note, the full-color version of this girl is shown here for reference purposes only, and will not accompany the original art once purchased.
